Mgr. Subject: AMENDING THE MISCELLANEOUS SALARY PLAN Statement of the !fatter The current salary plan designates that Street and Utility Maintenance Worker III are at salary range 30 and that Park Maintenance Worker III is at range 29. This discrepancy is a growing matter of concern to city management and employees alike, and needs to be corrected. 1, review of the classification descriptions and consultations with concerned management personnel find that responsibilities among all three classes are comparable. All three classes include crew lead and supervision responsibilities. While Street and Utility Maintenance Worker III's operate heavy equip- ment, Park Maintenance Worker .-II's are responsible for the use and application of pesticides. In fact a desirable qualification for the Park Maintenance Worker III is the possession of a certified Commercial Applicator license for the use of pesticide chemicals. Additionally, each Park Maintenance Worker III is responsible for 25 acres of parkland area. The discrepancy in these two salary ranges is apparent when comparing salaries in the entire maintenance work series. Regard- less of departmental assignment, Maintenance Worker I and II are within the same salary ranges, ranges 21 and 25 respectively. Thus it would be equal to assign all maintenance worker III classes, regardless of departmental assignment, to the same salary range, 30. The Utilities Maintenance Manager and Parks and Recreation Director concur with the recommendation to raise the Park Maintenance Worker III salary range to 30. Fiscal Impact Currently three Park Maintenance Worker III positions incurring the following: $160 - $195 increased salary costs for remaining fiscal year. $960 - $1172 increased salary costs per year. Exhibit Resolution No. G yll amending the Miscellaneous Salary Plan moving Park Maintenance Worker III from range 29 to 30.
