Construction of Bus Shelters by North County Transit District
Statement of the Matter
North County Transit District wants to know if Carlsbad is interested
in obtaining bus shelters. The attached letter outlines the District's
proposal. Mayor Packard requested that this item be placed on the
agenda for discussion.
The Council has previously considered and rejected a proposal from
a private firm to build and maintain bus shelters if advertising
were permitted on the structures.
Fiscal Impact
The City would be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of
shelters under this program.

Dear Mr. Aleshire:
The North San Diego County Transit Development Board has asked staff
to investigate the possibility of designing, constructing and
installing bus shelters at approximately 35 to 40 locations in the
entire North County Transit District area. The design and location
of these bus shelters would be subject to input and approval by your
city. The be rat further indicated that if your jurisdictional area
were to appxc•;Y shelter concept, your city would undertake the
responsibility cleaning and maintaining such shelters. The
Board is interested in determining which cities would be interested
in obtaining shelters under this proviso. If this should prove
an undue maintenance hardship, the District may be able to provide
a certain portion of the maintenance in cooperation with your
community.
The District's staff must report back to the Board at its June 25th
meeting, so your earliest possible thoughts would be appreciated.
