Mgr. i�-� Subject: Amending the Miscellaneous Classification and Salary Plan Statement of the' Matter Included within the Parks and Recreation FY 1980-81 budget and again in the FY 81-82 budget is the position of Aquatic Supervisor. The Personnel Department in concurrence with the Parks and Recreation Department has prepared.a classification description and appropriate salary for the new position of Aquatic Supervisor. The recommended salary range is $609.01 - $72S.87. Fiscal Impact Annual salary and related employee benefits (approximately 30€) $781.32 - $943-63 biweekly $20,314 - $24,534 annually -Exhibit Resolution NO.&o3 \ establishing the classification of Aquatic Supervisor at appropriate salary range. ' t Recommendation Adopt Resolution No. loli4& APPROVED i RESOLUTION NO. 6603 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY'COUNCIL OV THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING 3 THE CLASSIFICATION AND SALAR`' PLAN OF THE CITY TO INCLUDE THE CLASSIFICATION 4 OF AQUATIC SUPERVISOR 5 WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council 6 concurs, that the classification of Aquatic Supervisor should be 7 included in the city's Classification and Salary Plan. 8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the 9 City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 30 1, That the above recitations are true and correct. 13. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City 12 'Manager to add the classification of Aquatic Supervisor as described, 13 in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part thereof. 14 3. TACHMENT A Resolution No. 6603 AQUATIC SUPERVISOR DEFINITION Under general direction, to perform professional recreation work in the organization and supervision of a year round ,aquatics program and pool operation; and to do related work as required. EXA2•fPLES OF DUTIES Initiate, supervise, and participate in a variety of aquatic program a activities. Organize, schedule and staff senior, handicapped, adult, and children's programs. ;! { Coordinate and schedule aquatic, activities with other city departments ! and divisions, and with outside agencies. i! i Formulate and administer aquatic program budget. Establish policies and procedures for safety, maintenance,daily i operations, and scheduling. Supervise, train', and evaluate assigned full. and Bart time staff.. ,? Recruit and select part time personnel. ' Prepare periodic reports, and news -releases. Requisition supplies. ?i •Recommend fees and charges to Recreation Superintendent. ! Adjust and make minor repairs to heating and pumping equipment using j hand tools. Perform minor plumbing repairs and advise maintenance worker in area of water chemistry. Collect and,deposit monies received. Respond, to citizen complaints and request for information. Attend meetings and assist in providing staff support to Parks and Recreation Commission, including preparation and presentation of technical staff reports. Serve as Acting Recreation Superintendent as assigned. x Aquatic Supervisor Cont. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Philosophy, principles, and practices of administration and aquatic recreation programs. Aquatic and recreational activities suitable for children, adults, handicapped, and senior citizens. Principles and procedures of swimming pool maintenance, chlori- nators, heaters, and other equipment and machinery necessary to operate and keep in repair a large swimming pool. Chemicals used to purify water in a swimming pool and proper application, First aid methods, life saving, and safety precautions. Principles of supervision, training, and evaluation. Health and safety codes and standards applied in pool operation. f Teaching techniques. Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing. organize, direct, and supervise a variety of aquatic programs. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Interpret community aquatic needs. d i Supervise and instruct individuals and groups in aquatic activities. Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. Experience and Education Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience Three years of experience involving the development, conducting and supervision of recreation or -aquatic Aquatic Supervisor Cont. programs for all age groups, one year of which must have involved the supervision of aquatic programs. ` Education Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or ,ur,i��?rsity with major work in recreation or a related t field.
