Utilities Maintenance requested the Engineering staff to advertise for bids for
conversion of street lights in the City of Carlsbad.
Sealed bids were opened at 4 p.m. pn July 16, 1981 by the Purchasing Agent,

The low bid was submitted by McCain Construction Company of Encinitas in the amount
of $117,385.96 which is $107,000+ less than the Engineer's (firm of Barney O'Neil)
estimate of $284,700.00.
References of the McCain Construction Coitpany have been checked and the firm had
a good work record on the construction of the signal at El Camino Real and Tamarack.
FISCAL IMPACT
An account (#15-170-3117) has been opened by Finance Department to make payments
from and receive reimbursements from the State in accordance with City Council
action of May 19, 1981. The state loan will finance up to $381,500 for this project
(contract 1106 & 1107).
ENVIRONMENTAL IflPACT
The conversion procedure is a maintenance/administrative function and does not re-
quire environmental clearance.

RESOLUTION NO. 6627
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING BIDS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF CONTRACT NO. 1107 FOR THE CONVERSION OF STREET LIGHTS
WHEREAS, bids have been received by the City of Carlsbad for the conversion
of street lights for general City, Contract No. 1107; and
WHEREAS, the low bid received for this project was submitted by McCain Con-
struction Company in the amount of $117,385.96; and
WHEREAS, funds are or will be available in Account No. 15-170-3117 for this
project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad
12 as follows:
13 1. The above recitations are true and correct
14 2. The bid of $117,385.96 by McCain Construction Company for the conver-
15 sion of street lights for the general City, Contract No. 1107, is hereby
16 accepted and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a con-
17 tract therefor.
18 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad at
19 a regular meeting held the 4th day of August , 1981, by the following vote,
20 to wit:
21 AYES: Council Members Casler, Anear, Lewis and Kulchin
22 NOES: None
