SUBJECT: DOWNTOWN STREET LIGHT CONVERSION
CONTRACT NO. 1106
STATEMENT OF THE HATTER
Utilities Maintenance requested the Engineering staff to advertise for bids for
the conversion of street lights in the City of Carlsbad.
Sealed bids were opened at 4 p.m. pn July 16, 1981 by the Purchasing Agent. The
bidders were, from lowest bidder to highest:
1. McCain Construction $38,085.00 8. Amelco $58,033.98
2. Vander Linden 38,337.00 9. B & D Contractors 58,937.00
3. Gulf Electric 40,028.00 10. D.H. Perry 65,092.00
4. Baker Electric 40,925.00 11. Johnson & Son 73,261.00
5. Steiny & Company 45,680.00 12. Select Electric 79,875.20
6. Southern Contract 46,102.53 13. Thayre Electric 85,778.00
7. AEC of San Diego 46,442.00
The low bid was submitted by McCain Construction Company of Encinitas in the
amount of $38,085.00 which is $49,000- less than the Engineer's (firm of Barney
O'Neil) estimate of $86,800.00.
References of the McCain Construction Company have been checked and the firm had
a good work record on the construction of the signal at El Camino Real and
Tamarack.
FISCAL IMPACT
An account (#15-170-3117) has been opened by Finance Department to make payments
from and receive reimbursements from the State in accordance with City Council
action of May 19, 19&1. The state loan will finance up to $381,500 for this project(contract TT06 & HOT).
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The conversion procedure is a maintenance/administrative function and does not
require environmental clearance.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution No. fe&3^ accepting bids and awarding Contract No. 1106.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING BIDS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF CONTRACT NO. 1106 FOR THE CONVERSION OF DOWNTOWN
WHEREAS, bids have been received by the City of Carlsbad for the conversion
of downtown street lights for the City, Contract No. 1106; and
WHEREAS, the low bid received for this project was submitted by McCain Con-
struction Company in the amount of $38,085.00; and
WHEREAS, funds are or will be available in Account No. 15-170-3117 for this
project;
NCW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad
as follows:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. The bid of $38,085.00 by McCain Construction Company for the conversion
of downtown street lights for the City, Contract No. 1106, is hereby accepted
and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute a contract therefor.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad at
a regular meeting held the 4th day of August , 1981, by the following vote,
to wit:
AYES: Council Members CAsler, Anear, Lewis and Kulchin
NOES: None
ABSENT: Council Member Packard
