MTG. 11/17/81 Clfy I DEPT. p E R CITY, and Recreation Block Grant (SB 174) ~~ I I RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. 6 736 approving the applic for Grant Funds under the Roberti Z'Berg Urban Open Space and Recreation Program. Staff recommends submitting a proposal fo Hosp Grove Park. ITEM EXPLANATION The City is eligible to apply for State Funds in the amount of from the Roberti Z'Berg Urban Open Space and Recreation Block (SB 174). A block grant means that funds are available on a 1 capita basis to agencies in urbanized areas. The City must PY a local match of 25% of the amount of money provided by the S? grant, which equals $6,5 99. The matching funds are available in the Park-In-Lieu Fees fro] District One (1). The Parks and Recreation Commission considered two possible p: for funding. The selected park sites were Fuerte Park and Ho Grove Park. However, through research, staff has found that Park cannot be developed until 1983. A combination park and tary school was to be constructed at this location. The Schol District will not be prepared to implement their plans for tw, years. Staff has recommended the alternative option of Hosp Park. The site development will include service and pede.stri.an entr grading, walk ways, water lines and irrigation, drinking four! picnic tables, and playground equipment. E 3 d 25 32 4: 3 z I- o .. Staff is now in the process of preparing the new application. At this time, staff is considering eligible projects for funding by the program. Should your department have a project proposal , written notification should be made to Hotising and Redevelopment by October 15, 1981.
