EI RECOMMENDED ACTION: FIRE HYDRANT MARKER PROGRAM 'r DEPT. HD. Z--- CITY ATTY_ CITY MGR---,-'(5'`' APPROVE THE FIRE HYDRANT MARKER PROGRAM AND SYSTEM OF MARKING AS OUTLINED IN CITY STANDARD 4GS-12 DATED OCTOBER 15, 1980. ITEM EXPLANATION THE PURPOSE OF FIRE HYDRANT MARKERS IS TO IDENTIFY THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE HYDRANT FOR THE FIREFIGHTERS. THEY ARE SET OFF THE CENTER LINE TO INDICATE WHICH SIDE OF THE STREET THE HYDRANT IS ON. THE MARKERS ARE COMMON IN CALIFORNIA, AND ARE USED BY THE NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES. IN 1980 STANDARDS WERE WRITTEN FOR THE INSTALLATION OF FIRE HYDRANT MARKERS. UNTIL VERY RECENTLY MARKERS WERE INSTALLED ONLY AT NEW AND RELOCATED FIRE HYDRANT LOCATIONS AND RE -SURFACING PROJECTS. BECAUSE OF THE PROVEN VALUE OF THESE MARKERS WE RECENTLY STARTED INSTALLING AT ALI, FIRE HYDRANT LOCATIONS. SEVERAL OF THE RECENTLY INSTALLED FIRE HYDRANT MARKERS DO NOT CON- FORM TO THE STANDARD. IHOSE THAT ARE EXTREMELY OFF WILL BE RESET. WE ESTIMATE THAT APPROXIMATELY 50 MARKERS NEED TO BE RESET. THE STANDARD CALLS FOR MARKERS TO BE INSTALLED 2" FROM THE LANE LINES. WHERE STREETS ARE WITHOUT LANE LINES AND STREETS HAVE RAISED MARKERS AND NO PAINTED LINES, BLUE MARKERS ARE TO 'BE INSTALLED ON CENTER LINE OR IN LINE WITH EXISTING MARKERS. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 1800 FIRE HYDRANTS IN THE CITY. WE HAVE INSTALLED 360 MARKERS TO DATE. FISCAL IMPACT PROGRAM COSTS: $4,770.00 Plus Installation. (Markers Cost $2.65 ea) w OThe markers have already been purchased and are being installed by = water department crews on a time available basis. a.
