ITEM EXPLANATION:
Under the provisions of Rule VII, Section 2, of the Personnel
Rules an open employment list may only remain in effect for
a period of one year. Under most circumstances at the end of that period potential candidates have usually found other
employment and the list is not a viable source of employees.
In the case of the current Firefighter Employment List, our experience has shown this is not true. .Therefore, the Fire
Chief and the Personnel Department request the City Council authorize the extension of the Firefighter Employment List
until October 20, 1984.
Council action extending this list would provide for a savings in time and money required to recruit, test, and develop an
employment list which most likely over a period of the next year will receive little, if any, use.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact of extending the list is estimated at
approximately $4,000 which make up the cost of advertising
and the manpowered costs for testing, as well as clerical and personnel analyst costs in accomplishing the administra-
tive effort.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE EXTENSION OF THE FIREFIGHTER EMPLOYMENT
LIST TO OCTOBER 20, 1984.
WHEREAS, City Council action is required to extend the use
If an employment list beyond a period of one year; and
WHEREAS, the present Firefighter Employment List contains
everal viable candidates; and
WHEREAS, it is more economical and efficient at this time to
xtend the existing list than to create a new one.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
ity of Carlsbad, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the existing Firefighter Employment List be extended

PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
ity Council held on the 15th day of November , 1983, by the
