PURCHASE OF AMBULANCE

·st·aff recommends Council adopt Resolution No. 1':l'-17 , awarding
the bid for an ambulance to Arata Equipment in the amount of
$54,696.
IJE~ EXPLANATION:
On·November 1, 1983, Council adopte~ Resolution No. 7394, rejecting
,bids for a Mobile Intensive Care Unit Ambul~~ce and authorizing the
Purcha~ing Officer to invite bids for an ambulance using revised
specifications. ·
In Jccotd~n6e with Section 3.28.120 of the Municipal Code, ~otice
to :Bidders was .publishied and Request for Bids was made to four
vendors. One responsive bid was received, opened, witnessed and
tecorded on ~6vember f, 1983. The bid from-Arata Equipment
Company, 200 California Drive, 'Burlingame, CA, 94010 meets the
revis~d· sp,ecifications with minor exceptions. The cost of the unit
wa~ $51,.600·,. plus ta~, for a total of $54,696.
FISCAL IMPACT•:
the fuhds are available in the 1983-84 Vehicle M«intenance
Replace~ent ijudget. The ambulance was on the list of equipment
that ~as t& be replaced this year and was approved by Council.

EXHIBIT "B"
I recommend the award of the -bid for an ambulance to Arata
Equ'ipment Company in the amount of $54,696.
Arata's bid meets our specifications with minor exceptions. Their
bid price is below our budget request of $57 ,OOO, and local
referen~es are very pleased with Arata's product.
Although Arata was the only bidder on these revised specifications,
we are certain that their bid is competitive. Before revising the
specifications, we had received three bids. Two of those met our
specifications with Arata being the lower of the two. The third
had major exceptions to the specifications. We estimate that had
that bid met specifications, it would have exceeded Arata's bid.
The revision to the specifications changed the engine from diesel
to gasoline, which should have resulted in an identical savings on
the chassis cost for all bidders.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A BIOS ANO AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF A CONTRACT FOR AN AMBULANCE.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad,
5 California, as follows:
6 1 • That the bid from Arata Equipment Company, 200 California
7 Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010, is hereby accepted and the City
8 Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract for the
9 purchase of an ambulance in the amount of $51,600 plus tax, for a
10 total of $54,696.
11 PASSED, APPROVED, ANO ADOPTED by the City Council cf-the City
12 of Carlsbad, California~ at a regular meeting held on the 20tb
