CALIIORNIA S2010 . 87%81SO February 17, 1984 Mr. Frank Aleshire, City Manager City of Carlsbad 1200 Elm Avenue Carlsbad, CA. 92008 Dear Mr. Aleshire: A growing number of counties, including Contra Costa, Marin, and Los Angeles, are adopting ordinances prohibiting the transportation of any dog in the back of pickup trucks without being safely tied or caged. The concern is not limited to just the possible injury to the dogs, but also for the safety of drivers as well. In order for such an ordinance to be effective in San Diego County, it will require the cities to also support and enforce like ordinances within their local jurisdictions. We are interested in determining whether or not your city would be supportive of such an ordinance at this time. Last year the County was unable to obtain the support in Sacramento to carry such a bill through the Legislature. We are continuing to work on securing support this year. Until such time, would you please let us know of your city's position and input on such an ordinance? Thank you for your review of this matter, and we look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, PAUL W. FORDEM Supervisor, District 2 pjn
