RECOMMENDED ACTION:
PROCESSING SERVICES
Adopt Resolution No. 7633 approving the amended agreement between the Cit Datastream for data processing services.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On October 11, 1983, Council approved an agreement with Datastream, a private for the services of a computer technician to assist with management of the Ci
data processing system. The assignments of the technician have primarily re1
maintaining software in operation, developing new software for small applicat
hardware management and operator assistance e
With the increased use of the system by other departments and problems experi
with existing software, the service has been very valuable. It is recommende
we renew the contract for fiscal year 1984-85.
The attached agreement has two changes from the initial agreement.
First, the monthly price has increased from $3,520 to $3,730. The increase i:
less than 6%, but the increase still compares very favorably with the other b.
$7,680 and $6,000 which were received in October.
The second change includes an additional provision which would allow the City
reduce the amount of services required from the consultant. This would mean q
reduct ion of time with a corresponding proport ionate reduct ion in cost.
This was included because of the plans to get many of the existing data proce:
problems solved in fiscal year 1984-85. Once resolved, we may find that servj
a technician are not required on a full time basis.
If experience shows we will always need a technician on site, we will examine
costs of hiring staff versus costs for contracting at that time.
FISCAL IMPACT :
Maximum monthly cost of the agreement is $3,730, with the possibility of cost
reduction if amount of services is reduced during the year.

RESOLUTION NO. 7634
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD
AUTHORIZING THE MYOR TO EXECUTE AN AMENDED AGREEMENT
BETWEEN THE CITY OF CARLSBAD AND DATASTREAM FOR THE
PROVISION OF DATA PROCESSING RELATED SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad requires assistance from a qualified
technician to assist in the operation of the City's data processing systc
WHEREAS, on October 11, 1983, the City Council approved an agreement
Datastream for the provision of a data processing technician; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to amend the agreement for fiscal year 1984-
change the cost and provide a way to reduce services during the year, if
necessary.
NOW, THEREFORE, RE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Car
as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the amended agreement with Datastream for data processing
services is hereby approved.
3. That the Mayor is authorized to sign the amended agreement on fi.
with the City Clerk.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
the City of Carlsbad held the 19th day of June , 1984, by
