HD. ;:;2 I CITY ATIY bSI/: CITY MGR, ;;7tJ.- Adopt Resolution No. 7'ti, ':(.5' 1984-85 Legislative Agenda. supporting Senior Action Coalition ITEM EXPLANATION: Mr. Bernard Schussel of the Area Agency on Aging is encouraging city support of the Senior Action Coalition 1984-85 Legislative Agenda. The coalition is seeking appropriations and actions outlined in Exhibit 1. FISCAL IMPACT: No direct fiscal impact on City. EXHIBITS: 1. Senior Action Coalition 1984-85 Agenda. 2. Resolution No. ·rJli> '-lo-. {-.. ,. .. ~· ' l 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 RESOLUTION NO. 7645 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENIOR ACTION COAL'ITION 1'984·-ss LEGISLATIVE AG1::NDA WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of California has made various augmentations to the California Department of Aging Budget for fiscal year 1984-85; and WHEREAS, these various Budget augmentations and Bills are vital to the maintenance and improvement of life sustaining services to California's 3.4 million elderly; and 9 WHEREAS, the number of senior citizens in California is 10 steadily increasing both in total numbers and in percentage of 11 the general population; and 12 WHEREAS, meeting the most basic needs for food, shelter, 13 social and day health care, specialized transportation, legal 14 services, information and referral and other services has been 15 demonstrated to be cost effective; and 16 WHEREAS, providing these serYices for·california's elderly 17 reduces isolation, sustains and improves health and happiness, 18 and allows maximum freedom, independence, and the free 19 exercise of individual initiative; and 20 WHEREAS, it is in the bast interests of senior citizens 21 in Carlsbad, CAlifornia and throughout the State, and equally so 22 of society everywhere, to support life maintaining and enhancing 23 services for the elderly. 24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the C~ty Council of 25 the City of Carlsbad hereby urges the Honorable George 26 Deukmejian, Governor of the State of California, to approve 27 the Senior Action Coalition 1984-85 Legislative Agenda. 28 Ill Ill .;, l PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the 2 City Council of the City of Carlsbad held the 19th day of 3 June 1984, by the following vote, to wit: 4 AYES : Council lv'.'ernbers casler, kwis, Kulchin, Chick and Prescott 5 NOES: None 6 7 8 9 10 ll 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 ABSENT: ATTEST: fl e,.-J:L, L ~ ALETHA L.
