HD.& TITLE: DEPT. cc .r RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. 7&&0 , appointing a member to the Serra Cooperative Library System Advisory Board. ITEM EXPLANATION: The California Library Services Act became effective January 1, 1978 Among other things, the bill provided for the creation of an advisor; board consisting of members from each library in the Cooperative System. Since the City of Carlsbad is a member of the Serra System, the City Council has the right to appoint one member to the Advisory Board. That person must be a resident of Carlsbad. Caroline Schindler was initially appointed to a two year term on June 17, 1980. Mrs. Schindler was then reappointed for an additional two year term on June 29, 1982. That term expired in June, 1984. In accordance with Section 18749 of the Education Code, a member can serve no more than two consecutive terms. Therefore, Mrs. Schindler cannot be considered for reappointment to the Board. Copies of applications from interested individuals are attached for Council review in considering an appointment.
