HD.K CITY MG R.-% FOR INSTALLING RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS elm ArplvH RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution' No. 6 ra accepting Local Agency - State Agreement PMS-000s (2 *sting of $8,000 in Federal Grants through the California Department of Transportation and authorizing the City Clerk to Advertise for Bids for installing the raised pavement markers at locations indicated on the attached map. ITEM EXPLANATION: This project is funded by a federal grant, funds for which will be forwarded to the City of Carlsbad upon acceptance by the State of an acceptable bid. Plans and specifications for this project have been prepared by the Engineering Department and approved by the State of California's Transportation Department. We have been authorized to advertise for bids and the documents are on file in the Engineering Department. The money for the installation of raised pavement markers is not in the budget because it could not be determined in advance that the Federal Grant would be forthcoming. The grant is now approved. There will be no cost to the City because the State will advance the money to the City after we receive an acceptable low bid, but before the award of a contract. The streets were selected by the Traffic Engineering Division, based upon a review of arterial and collector streets which do not already have raised pavement markers. Streets are generally selected for raised pavement markers because of the amount of traffic they carry, and/or the visibility difficulties they may experience during rain or fog. The locations selected must be approved by CalTrans in order to receive funding. Some of the streets in the City which already have raised pavement markers are: El Camino Real, Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad Blvd., and Jefferson Street. FISCAL IMPACT: The Engineer's Estimate for this project is $8,000, which will be funded 100% by the Federal Grant. Monies are to be deposited in the Income Account No. 119-810-8204-8620. The City costs for this project is the staff time to administer the contract. EXHIBITS: 1. Location Map 2.
