RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. approving the substitution of a Word Processing Clerk I for a ecretary I1 position in the Engineering Department and the hiring of a Clerk-Steno on a temporary basis.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
With the lateral transfer of both Secretary I1 employees in the Engineering Department, we have the opportunity to make some desirable changes in the clerical staff. We suggest that the two full-time City employees be one Secretary I1 and one Word Processing Clerk I. We would then staff the rest of the clerical group with a temporary Clerk-Steno and a temporary part-time Clerk Typist. This realignment of staff would result in no change in total personnel count in the Department, but
would more properly reflect the long-term workload structure.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There will be a slight savings from budget since the Secretary
I1 position, formerly filled by MaryAnn Theis, will be replaced
by a Word Processing Clerk1 which is at a lower pay grade.

RESOLUTION NO. 7693
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CLERICAL STAFF STRUCTURE CHANGE
FOR THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 1984-85.
WHEREAS, funds in the amount of $17,641 were approved in the City of Carlsbac
984-85 budget for the position of Secretary I1 in the Engineering Department;

WHEREAS, the administrator of that department has requested the deletion of
his position and the substitution of a Word Processor Clerk I with required
unding of $14,191; and
WHEREAS, the temporary Word Processing Clerk will be replaced by a temporary
lerk-Steno at no additional expense;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad as
01 lows:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. The City Engineer and Finance Director are herewith authorized to make
he aforementioned personnel substitutions.
