MTG, 11/6/84 TITLE: AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION AND
MISCELLANEOUS SALARY PLANS I PER DEPT.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 7793- adopting the
classification of Police Services Aide.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
On June 26, 1984, City Council adopted the FY1984-85 budget. Included within the budget in the Police Department is one
new position requiring a new classification of Police Services
Aide. The Personnel Department in concurrence with the
Police Department has prepared a classification description and appropriate salary range for Police Services Aide. The
recommended salary is R15, $502.12 - $594.42 biweekly.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Annual cost of salary and benefits: $19,123 - $22,062.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN OF THE CITY TO INCLUDE THE CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE
SERVICES AIDE.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
concurs, that the classification of Police Services Aide should
be included in the city's Classification and Salary Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to add the classification of Police Services Aide as
described in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part :
thereof.
3. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to add the title of Police Services Aide to the appropriate
city salary plan as shown on Attachment B, attached hereto and madt
a part thereof.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the 6th day of November , 1984,
by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Pllembers Casler, Lewis, Kulchin, Chick and Prescott

POLICE SERVICES AIDE
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of administrative
staff and support duties; perform special assignments in various operating divisions of the Police Department; and to do related
work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist property officer in the maintenance and disposition of stolen or lost property.
Assists in gathering and preserving evidence at crime scenes.
Conduct vacation security cheeks.
Performs basic maintenance checks for all police vehicles and schedules more complete and complex maintenance work.
Directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Prepares crime reports with no suspect information or follow-up.
May investigate minor non-injury accidents.
Takes reports over the telephone and Lithe field in minor no suspect crimes.
Fingerprint the public and registrants requesting such service.
Conduct tours of the Police Department.
Issues parking violation citations.
Answers selected calls and complaints furnishing information and
direction to the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as checking oil and tire pressure.
Ability to:
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Write clear and accurate reports.

Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other
employees.
Learn, understand and utilize written materials related to police work.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Work shifts, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
Experience and Education
Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Necessarv SDecial Reauirement
Possession of a valid Califarnia Class I11 driver's license.
