TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR
INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS OF CARLSBAD
BOULEVARD AND POINSETTIA LANE

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 7m Approving plans and specifications,
authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the
construction of traffic signal and intersection improvements at
Carlsbad Boulevard and Poinsettia Lane.

The engineer's estimate for this project is $154,000.00 Funds in
the amount of $220,000.00 are available for this project in the
Account No. 110-820-18-40-3168.

Plans and specifications for the improvement of the intersection
at Poinsettia Lane and Carlsbad Boulevard and installation of a
traffic signal have been completed. This project will be
constructed and completed concurrently with the Poinsettia Lane
construction which is currently underway.

authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the
construction of traffic signal and intersection improvements
at Carlsbad Boulevard and Poinsettia Lane.
Originally, it was planned to modify the existing state beach
parking entrance and convert the intersection to a four way
intersection. This plan required the state beach to construct an
additional stacking lane inside their property so that westbound
traffic from Poinsettia waiting to enter the state beach would
not obstruct the flow of traffic on Carlsbad Boulevard.
State beach authorities indicated they have no budget for this
purpose and it is not even on their priority list. They
recommended a three way intersection.

RESOLUTION NO. 7880
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO INVITE
BIDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND
INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS OF CARLSBAD BOULEVARD AND
POINSETTIA LANE - CONTRACT NO. 3168
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has determined it is
necessary and in the public interest to install a traffic signal and improve
the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Poinsettia Lane; and
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the furnishing of all labor,
material, tools, equipment, transportation, and other expenses necessary or
incidental for said project, Contract No. 3168, have been prepared and are
on file in the Engineering Department of the City of Carlsbad and are
incorporated by reference herein;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad as follows:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.

directed to proceed to publish, in accordance with law, Notice to Contractors
inviting bids for the Construction of Traffic Signal and Intersection
