INSTALL A STOP SIGN
ON SANTA ISABEL STREET
AT ALGA ROAD
TITLE
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No. J/Fc( UI installing a stop sign on
Santa Isabel Street at Alga Road.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Current practice is for the location of stop signs
controlling access to through streets to be approved by
Ordinance and included in the Carlsbad Municipal Code. The
Code assigns to the City Traffic Engineer (City Engineer)
the responsibility of determining the timing of ;
installation of traffic control devices.
The City's traffic consultant has studied traffic on Santa
Isabel at its intersections with Alga Road and El Fuerte
Street.
Alga Road is a major arterial street at this location, and
Santa Isabel Street is a local street. This intersection
is a "T" intersection. To assign right-of-way, it is a
necessity to have Santa Isabel Street stop for Alga Road.
A criterion for stop sign installation is met in that Alga
Road is an important link in the City's adopted circulation
element of the general plan. As the various links of the
circulation element are constructed, all the streets on the
plan will be "through streets", and traffic on all
intersecting streets will stop for the through streets.
It is the recommendation of the traffic consultant and the
City Engineer that based on staff's study, the City Council
approve installation of stop signs stopping traffic on
Santa Isabel at Alga Road.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Installing one stop sign will cost approximately $75.00.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
- CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE IO, CHAPTER 10.28 OF THE CARLSBAD
MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE RE-AMENDMENT OF SECTION 10.28.320
REQUIRING ADDITIONAL STOPS FOR STREETS INTERSECTING ALGA ROAD.
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, hereby ordains as
follows:
SECTION 1: That Title 10, Chapter 10.28 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code
is amended by amendment of Section 10.28.320 to read as follows:
“10.28.320 Alga Road. Drivers shall stop where the following described
streets intersect Alga Road:
Almaden Lane Estrella De Mar Road
Cazadero Drive Manzanita Street
Corintia Street Santa Isabel Street
El Fuerte Street Xana Way.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty days after
its adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify-to the- adoption of this
ordinance and cause it to be published at least once in the Carlsbad
Journal within fifteen days after its adoption.
INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of the City Council held
