RECOMMENDED ACTION:
If Council wishes to approve the amendment regarding service station signs your action is to adopt Ordinance No. 9759.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The City Council, at your meetinq of 5/7/85 directed the City
Attorney to prepare the necessary document approving an
amendment to the zone code permitting service stations to increase the size of monument/price signs if the sim is used
for both identification and pricing, and all other freestandinq
signs are removed from the site. That document is attached.

A10 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TAE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 21, CHAPTER 21.41 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY TEIE
REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTOMOBILE SERVICE STATION PRICE
SIGNS . AMENDMENT OF SUBSECTION 21.41.074(a)(2) TO ADD
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California
does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: That Title 21, Chapter 21.41 of the
Carlsbad Municipal Code is amended by the amendment of Section
21.4lO074(a)(2) to read as follows:
"(2) The price sign shall either be a monument type sign or be attached to an existing pole sign located on the
property. The sign may be double faced and the maximum area for each sign shall not exceed 12 square feet if attached to an existing pole sign or 16 square feet for a monument sign measure( at the outermost boundary of the sign face. A monument sign not to exceed 48 square feet in area with a height not to exceed 6 feet shall be permitted if it is used to identify the service
station as well as provide pricing information and no other
freestanding signs are located on the property.
(aa) No monument sign shall be permitted within 10 feet of the face of the curb of the street.
(bb) For corner lots no sign over 30 inches in height shall be permitted in the triangular area created by the
intersection of the two property lines along the street and two points 25 feet behind each back of curb return.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective
thirty days after its adoption, and City Clerk shall certify to
the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published at
least once in the Carlsbad Journal within fifteen days after its
adoption.
