ITEM EXPLANATION: On April 2, 1985 Council authorized the advertisement of bid package #3 for said project. As of May 2, 1985 sealed bids were received per Exhibit 2 provided by the Koll Company. The Construction Manager's estimate on the two sections to be awarded was $694,954. References have been verified on the recommended low bidder who is as follows: Bid Section: 3006-3B Plumbing, Kinney Air Conditioning $220,500 3006-3D HVAC, Kinney Air Conditioning 539,704 TOTAL $760,204 Total for the two bids is $760,204 which is $65,250 over the estimate. The Construction Manager recommends the acceptance of these bids as a fair and reasonable price for the work intended. FISCAL IMPACT: Budgeted funds for this phase of the construction are currently in Account No. 332-820-1810-3006. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: EIR and CUP have been approved. EXHIBITS: 1. WHEREAS, bids have been received by the City of Carlsbad for construction of the Carlsbad Safety and Service Center on Contract Nos. 3006-3B Plumbing and 3006-3D Heating, Ventilating'^ and Air Conditioning; and WHEREAS, the bids received for the contracts total $760,204; and WHEREAS, the Construction Manager has recommended acceptance of the bids; and WHEREAS, the funds are available in Account No. 332-820-1810-3006. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. Description of Work Numerous firms specializing in this activity were contacted by your Construction Manager with a pre-bid conference being held on April 23, 1985, and bids received on May 2, 1985. We have analyzed the low bids and finding no major irregularities recommend that an award for the following bid package items be made to: Description Contractor Amount 3B Plumbing Kinney Air Conditioning $220,500 3D HVAC Kinney Air Conditioning $539,704 We feel these awards represent a fair and reasonable price for the work intended.
