RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt Resolution No. f'tt3.r adopting the
classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator.
City Council adopt Resolution No. R93G adopting the classification of Administrative Assistant II/Arts Coordinator.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
On ;day 14, 1985, City Council adopted a Senior Citizen Program. Included within this program is a new position of Senior Citizen Coordinator. The Personnel Department in concurrence
with the Parks and Recreation Department has prepared a classification description and appropriate salary for Senior
Citizen Coordinator. It is recommended that this position be placed in the management compensation plan at $869 - $1,038
hiweekly .
City Council is currently considering the adoption of an Arts
Element to the General Plan. Included within this proposal is a new position of Administrative Assistant II/Arts Coordinator. The Personnel Department has prepared a classification descrip- tion and appropriate salary for the Administrative Assistant 11/ Arts Coordinator. It is recommended that this position be ?laced in the management compensation at $869 - $1,038 biweekly.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CI'IY COUNCIL OF THE CIm OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN OF THE CITY TO INCLUDE
THE CLASSIFICATION OF SENIOR CITIZEN
- COORDINATOR.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
:oncurs, that the classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator
should be included in the city's Classification and Salary Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
:ity of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
tanager to add the classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator
5s described in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part
:hereof.
3. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Yanager to add the title of Senior Citizen Coordinator to the
3ppropriate city salary plan as shown on Attachment B, attached
zereto and made a part thereof.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Zarlsbad City Council held on the 21st day of my , 1985,

SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR
DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform professional technicial and tive work involv-d in the city's senior citizen program do related work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Prepare and administer senior citizen program budget.

Supervise and participate in a variety of senior citizen program
activities.
Make recommendations to the Director of Parks and Recreation regarding the organization, scheduling and staffing of various senior citizen program activities.
Coordinate program activities with other city departments and divisions, and with outside agencies.
Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.
Maintain activity and progress reports.
Prepare periodic reports and news releases.
Requisition supplies.
Provide staff assistance and support to the Carlsbad Senior Citizen Association.
Attend meetings and provide staff support to the Commission/Board
including the preparation and presentation of technical staff reports.
Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information.
Assist in the development and submital of applications and grants to governmental agencies and private foundations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of community organization, and administration.
Concepts of intergroup relations.
Current literature, and developments in gerontology.
First aid methods and safety precautions related to recrea- tional settings.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
- THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN OF THE CITY TO INCLUDE THE CLASSIFICATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE
ASSISTANT II/ARTS COORDINATOR.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
concurs, that the classification of Administrative Assistant
Arts Coordinator should be included in the city's .Classification
and Salary Plan.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT I1
ARTS COORDINATOR
.- DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform professional technical and administrative
work involved in coordinating a city-wide arts program; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the organizational function to which assigned.
Assist in budget preparation, analysis, and preparation.
Represent the city in community and at professional meetings as
required.
Prepares, tracks, and review applications for funding assistance with other governmental agencies and private foundations.
Prepare complete reports and make presentations.on the formulation
of policy and procedure, staffing, and organizational requirements.
Provide technical and staff assistance to the Arts Commission.
Plan and implement
community interest
OUALIFICATIONS
informational programs to stimulate and maintain in the arts.
Knowledge of:
Principles of organization, administration, budget, and personnel management.
Visual and performing arts.
Principles and practices of development and management of arts programs in the public sector.
Grant proposal writing and administration.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Work cooperatively with management staff, employees, the Arts Commission and others.
Arrange and coordinate special events.

Experience and Education

Experience

Education
