RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Consider appointment of committee.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Mayor Casler is proposing the appointment of a seven member ad hoc committee to study the advantages and disadvantages of locating a campus of San Diego State
University in Carlsbad.
The State Legislature has approved an appropriation to
study the location of a North County campus of San Diego
State University (SDSU). Several north county cities are interested in having such a campus within their jurisdiction. One possible site under consideration is in Carlsbad.
The Mayor recommends that an ad hoc committee be appointed to explore the advantages and disadvantages to Carlsbad of
having such a campus within the city of Carlsbad.
Members of the committee would be appointed from the following fields:
1. Education - upper level
2. Education - local district
3. Industry
4. Business
5. Circulation committee
6. At large - north of Palomar Airport Road
7. At large - south of Palomar Airport Road
The committee would be asked to study the issue and report back to the Council with a report within four months.
