CARLSBAD BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB
FOR LITTER REMOVAL
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt resolution No. 816-3 approving the agreement
between the City and the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club to remove litter.
TEM EXPLANATION :
The City of Carlsbad has contracted with the Carlsbad Boys and Girls
Club for several years to provide litter removal services from
selected rights-of-way, including (but not limited to) Carlsbad
Boulevard, El Camino Real, Cannon Road, Chestnut Street, Poinsettia
Lane and Alga Road.
One Saturday per month, you may see 7 to 10 members of the Carlsbad
Boys and Girls Club, ages 12 to 16 years performing this worthwhile
service. Participation in the Litter Removal Program is alternated
between the "Village Branch" on Roosevelt Street and the "La Costa
Branch" at Levante Park. Each youngster earns $25 for 5 hours of
work.
Supervision and transportation of the youth are provided by the
Club's leader. The City provides a truck for collection and
disposal of trash. The amount of trash collected will vary with
the season and the particular areas cleared. On a "light" day an
average of 35 bags will be picked up while on a "heavy" day an
average of 50 bags have been collected.
Staff recommends Council approve the agreement to continue this service in fiscal year 85-86 which benefits the youngsters as well as the entire community.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Agreement provides for a maximum payment of $4,800 to the
Boys and Girls Club during fiscal year 85-86. If the Club is
unable to provide 7 workers, the service is cancelled for that month and the $400 remains unexpended.
