H CITY MGR.Z The S.D.S.U./Carlsbad Campus Discussion Committee recommends that the City Council actively pursue locating an S.D.S.U. North County campus in Carlsbad. ITEM EXPLANATION: The City Council appointed an ad hoc committee to explore the advantages and disadvantages of locating a North County campus of San Diego State University in Carlsbad. The S.D.S.U./Carlsbad Campus Discussion Commi ttee has met seven times in carrying out the City Council charge. interested parties which could be affected by a campus; the committee researched and reviewed material on campus/communi ty relations; the committee heard Senator Craven speak on the proposed campus and received comments from departments within the City and special districts serving the City on their perception of the advan- tages and disadvantages of locating an S.D.S.U. campus in Carlsbad. While much informati on was reviewed, 'the Commi ttee found 1 i ttl e recent, specific data that could answer all its questions. We have tried to examine all aspects of impact on our community. The charge to our ad hoc commi ttee was to expl ore advantages and disadvantages of 1 oca- ting a campus in Carlsbad. We have been somewhat constrained by time and the nebulous nature of the proposed university. The last state university was built twenty years ago. We began querying the appropriate City departments and special districts serving the City to see what impact they believed such a university would have on them. We also looked at the effects of universities on other communities similar to ours. We considered two possible sites that could work well.
