RECOMMENDED ACT:ON:
Adopt Resolution No. f''/d~ authorizing the purchase of the Opticom Traffic
Signal Control System.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The 1985-86 Capital Improvment Program includes $180,000 for the Opticom traffic
signal emergency over-ride system for twenty-eight major intersections in the
City and the related equipment to operate the system on the fire vehicles.
It is necessary for the new units to be compatible with the Opticom systems on
the other traffic signals that have been installed since 1984 when the Optican
system became a part of the City's traffic signal specifications.
Section 3.28 .000 of California Municipal Code waives the bidding requirements
where an ltem is required to be compatible with other equipment. The Optic001
system is available locally through John Henberger Co., Inc., 7696 Vickers
Street,. San Di'ego, CA 92111-1526, and the cost of the control devices for the
twenty":'eight existing intersections and emitters for sixteen Fire Department
vehicles is s·1s0,610.10.
FISCAL IMPACT
Fund$ for the purchase of the control system and related equipment available in
Account No. 300-820-18-90-3209.

CITY OF CARLSBAD,_CALIFORNIA, AUTHOOIZI~
THE EXECUTION OF A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THE
PURCHASE OF OPTICOM TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL SYSTEM
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California as
follows:
1. That the proposal of John C. Henberger Co., Inc. 7696 Vickers Street,
San Diego, CA 92111-1526, is ~ereby accepted and the City Manager is her~y
authorized to execute a Purchase Order for the purchase of an Opticom Traffic
Signal tontrol System in the anount of $150,610.10.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of th
City of Carlsbad on th: 18th da_y of .February ... .. '
