TRAFFIC SIGNAL - EL CAMINO REAL
AND FARADAY AVENUE
By motion, adopt Resolution No. 85-/2 authorizing the City
Manaqer to contract for the design of the signal at El Camino
Real-and Faraday Avenue and appropriating $40,000 from the PFF to
fund the City’s portion of the cost.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The industrial area off of Faraday Avenue is gaining occupancy
which is adding to the volume of traffic using the intersection
at El Camino Real. Additionally, the Carlsbad Safety Center
should be occupied in the near future. Considering these
factors, the traffic signal at Faraday Avenue and El Camino
Real should be installed as soon as practical.
As a condition of approval for Carlsbad Tract 81-10, Carlsbad
Research Center, the developer bonded towards half the cost of
installation of this signal ($40,000). The City was to pay for
half and pursue design and construction when the signal was
warranted. The original improvement agreement required the
developer to deposit his share of the cost upon receipt of notice
by the City that construction of the signals is required.
This intersection is included on the recently approved list of
projects to be funded by the PFF. The current estimate for the
cost is $80,000 requiring $40,000 each from the developer and the
City. A final accounting will be made to reimburse the developer
or obtain any deficit. The project should be complete within
five months.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City’s share of the cost ($40,000) will come from the Public
Facilities Fund.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO CONTRACT FOR THE DESIGN OF THE
SIGNAL AT EL CAMINO REAL AND FARADAY AVENUE
AND APPROPRIATING $40,000 FROM THE PFF TO
FUND THE CITY'S PORTION OF THE COST.
WHEREAS, it has been determined that a traffic signal is
warranted at the intersection of El Camino Real and Faraday
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the Koll Company, developers of the Carlsbad
Research Center, has agreed to pay one-half of the cost of the
traffic signal at the intersection of El Camino Real and
Faraday Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the. City Engineer has determined the cost of
installing said traffic signal will be $80,000; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has included this traffic signal
on the list of projects to be funded by the Public Facilities
Fund; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the Public Facilities Fund
for construction of this signal;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Manager is authorized to contract for
the design of the signal. I
3. That funds in the amount of $40,000 are appropriated
from the unappropriated fund balance of the Public Facilities
Fund to Account No. 330-840-1840-3225.
