REVISED CONSULTANT D E PT. e- DESIGN OF LA COSTA AVENUE WIDENING CITYMGR. --&& RECOMMENDED ACTION: By motion, approve the attached Resolution No. rA-707 approving an $80,000 increase in the Not To Exceed fee estimate for Willdan and Associate's design of La Costa Avenue Widening Project. ITEM EXPLANATION: At its January 28, 1986 meeting, the City Council approved an agreement with Willdan for design of La Costa Avenue for an amount not to exceed $95,000. The $95,000 amount did not include all costs involved in the design work. The correct figure should have been $175,000. $80,000 in design costs were inadvertently omitted when the final design cost was calculated. Neither'the City nor Consultant recognized the error until the design agreement was signed. City staff and Consultant both agree that the total design fee should be the "Not to Exceed $175,000" figure. The revised design cost is consistent with generally accepted cost standards for this type of design. The design content of this project includes El Camino Real and La Costa Avenue intersection, widening of La Costa Avenue to 1-5, and interim intersection improvements at 1-5. FISCAL IMPACT: A total of $250,000 was approved by Council for design of this project. EXHIBITS: 1. I have discussed this error with Frank Mannen and we believe that safeguards can be instituted to eliminate this type of mistake. I have thoroughly investigated this instance and it appears to simply be a human error during preparation of the agenda bill. There is no reason evident at this time M!!
