By motion, approve the recommended preliminary design and
prepare and submit a grant application to the Coastal Cor!sPL"
authorize stafF to (a) proceed with the final design and (b)

ITEM EXPLANATION
On January 21, 1986, the Council approved a consultant agree-
ment with Woodward-Clyde Consultants for the design of the
Carlsbad Boulevard Seawall. Preliminary design alternatives
have been prepared as partial fulfillment of this agreement.
These alternatives incorporate or accomodate all features
State Department of Park? and Aecreation, Department of Fish
requested by the various regulatory agencies such as the
and Game, and Department of Boating and 'rlaterways.
Louis Lee, of Woodward-Clyde, will present the design olterna-
tives and staff's recommended design at t!?iA Councii meetin?.
Coastal Conservancy grant funds of $400,000 will be requested
by staff, if so directed by Council. These funds wj.11 be used
to provide a number of beach access points from Carl.nbad Boulevard and will provide a continuous walkway Fqrallel to
the beach for the length of the project.
