Adopt Resolution No. m . , appointing a member to the Serra Cooperative
Library System Advisory Board,
ITEM EXPLANATION
The California Library Services Act became effective 3aruary 1, 1978. Among
other things, the bill provided for the creation of an advisory board consisting
of members fran each library in the Cooperative System. Since the City of
Carlsbad is a member of the Serra System, the City Council has the right to
appoint one member to the advisory board. That person must be a resident of
Carlsbad.
Margaret Brownley was appointed to a 2-year term in 3uly, 1984, In accordance
with Section 18749 of the Education Code, a member can serve no more than two
consecutive terns. Therefore, Mrs. Brownley is eligible, and has agreed to serve an additional tern,
The attached Resolution also extends the tern to a September expiration. That
provides consistency. with other jurisdictions. Additionally, Carolyn Ayres has
been serving as the alternate member, and the attached Resolution formalizes
that appointment.

RESOLUTION NO. 8607
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CNSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APFOINTING A, MEMBER TO THE
SERRA COOPERATIVE LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
WHEREAS, the Serra Cooperative Library System Advisory Board was
established pursuant to the California Library Services Act, which provide5
the governing body of each member jurisdiction of the Cooperative Library z
shall appoint one member to the Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad is a member of the Serra Cooperative Lit
System; and
WHEREAS, the tern of Margaret Brownley expires in June, 1986;
WHEREAS, it is desirable to extend the tern expiration to the month of
September to provide consistency with other jurisdictions.
WHEREAS, Carolyn Ayres. has been serving as alt'ernate and desires to
continue . as alternate; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carl.
California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That Margaret Brownley is hereby appointed to the -
Cooperative Library System Advisory Board for a 2-year tern to expire in
September, 1988.
3. That Carolyn Ayars is hereby appointed as alternate member.
