RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. rG3-6 approving plans and specifications, and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids for the construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of Faraday Avenue and El Camino Real, Project No. 3225.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The plans and specifications for the construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of Faraday Avenue and El Camino Real have been completed. The Engineering Department has reviewed and approved the plans and specifications.
The traffic signal is required due to increasing traffic volumes at this intersection. The growing occupancy of industrial buildings near Faraday Avenue and pending occupancy of the City Safety Center necessitates the installation of this traffic signal. Staff will expedite the installation of the signal so it
will be fully operational prior to the City Safety Center's opening.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Engineer's estimate for this project is $60,000.
As a condition of approval for Carlsbad Tract No. 84-10, Koll Company (developer) has deposited monies in the amount of $40,000
towards half of the cost of the installation of said signal. The remaining half of the cost will be borne by the City.
Funds in the amount of $40,000 are budgeted in Account No. 330-
840-1840-3225, to cover the City's share (50%) of the remaining costs of the traffic signal.

RESOLUTION NO. 8656
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY CLERK TO INVITE BIDS FOR PROJECT NO. ,3255
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has
determined it is necessary and in the public interest to
construct the Faraday Avenue and El Camino Real traffic
signal; and
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the furnishing of
all labor, materials, tools, equipment, transportation, and
other expenses necessary or incidental for said project,
Contract No. 3225, have been prepared and are on file in the
Engineering Department of the City of Carlsbad and are
incorporated by reference herein;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. The plans and specifications as presented are hereby
approved .
3. The City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad is hereby
authorized and directed to proceed to publish, in accordance
with law, Notice to Contractors inviting bids for the
construction of the Faraday Avenue and El Camino Real traffic
signal in accordance with the specifications hereinabove
referred to.
