CM TITLE: PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER CHANGE ORDER DEPT. HP. CITY ATTY CITY MGR. \JO^ D UJ Oo:a.a. O O RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution No. K"J^T^ amending Contract No. 3006-4C for Tecon Pacific to allow for additional expenditures necessary for the installation of the canopies on the Carlsbad Safety and Service Center in the amount of $29,494.58. ITEM EXPLANATION Last year the decision was made to delete the original canopy design from the Safety Center when it was determined that the cost was in excess of $450,000.00. Subsequently, a modified design for the canopy concept was accepted, bid, and accepted at a cost of $132,500.00 from Construction Specialties on Contract No. 3006-6B in December of 1985. Because of the different manner in which the new canopy is attached, it was necessary to modify the support tubes between each level of architecutral concrete to accommodate the attachment to the building. This was done by the architectural precast vendor, Tecon Pacific. With these additional costs, the savings to the project are still almost $300,000.00. The above changes have been reviewed and approved by the architect, Construction Manager and City staff. We will issue the Change Order upon approval of the City Council. These changes are very critical to the timely completion of the project. FISCAL IMPACT The additional cost of this Change Order has been included in the current budget for Phase I of the Safety Center. Funds are available in Account No. 320-820-1810-3006.
