The Traffic Safety Commission recommends that the City Council introduce
Ordinance No. -3ol..o3 to establish a prime facie 35 mile per hour speed
limit on Alicante Road from Alga Road to Corte De La Vista.
The Traf fie Safety Commission recommends that the City Council introduce
Ordinance No. 3 -;J_ o'( to establish a prima facie 35 mile per hour speed
limit on El Fuerte Street from Corte De La Vista to Alga Road.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Staff presented the results of a traffic and engineering survey to
determine the speed limit on Alicante Road and El Fuerte Street at the
Traffic Safety Commission meeting held August 4, 1986. Based upon the
survey, the Traffic Safety Coordinating Committee recommended to the
Traffic Safety Commission a 40 mile per hour speed limit for the above
referenced roads, which would be in accordance with the traffic and
engineering survey as required by Section 22357 of the California Vehicle
Code. Chief Jimno, as a member of the committee, concurs with the
committee's recommended speed limit of 40 miles per hour. However, he has
pointed out that due to the recommended lower speed limit, enforcement will
have to be by pacing rather ~han by radar.
The Traffic Safety Commission was of the opinion that a 35 mile per hour
speed limit would be appropriate for Alicante and El Fuerte. For this
reason, the Traffic Safety Commissio(l is recommending to the City Council a
35 mile per hour prima facie speed limit on Alicante Road and El Fuerte
Street.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Installation of nine (9) speed limit signs will cost approximately
$1125.00.

8 SECTION 1: That Title 10, Chapter 10.44 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code
9 is amended by the addition of Section 10.44.210 to read as follows:

"10.44.210 Alicante Road: Upon Alicante Road from Alga Road to its
intersection Corte De La Vista, the prima facie speed limit shall be
thirty-five miles per hour."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days after
14 its adoption and the City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad shall certify to the
15 adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be publishsd at least once in the
16 Carlsbad Journal \tithin fifteen days after its adoption.
17 INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of said City Council held
