TITLE:
TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION
OF ALGA ROAD AND CORINTIA STREET CITY AllY'm
CITY MGR.=
Adopt Resolution &!=?o to install a traffic signal at the intersection
of Alga Road and Corintia Street.
ITEM EXPLANkTION
The Traffic Safety Coordinating Committee, based upon traffic signal
warrants not being met, recommended to the Traffic Safety Commission that a
traffic signal not be installed at the intersection of Alga Road and
Corintia Street at this time.
At the November 3, 1986 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, by a 3-2 vote,
the Commission recommended that the City Council initiate the design and
installation of a traffic signal at the above referenced intersection.
Members of the Commission in favor of the signal predicated their
recommendation upon the critical speed along Alga Road at this location (52
M.P.H.) and their concern for pedestrian safety.
Upon authorization from the City Council, the Municipal Projects Division
will initiate the consultant selection process to select a consulting
engineer to design the traffic signal, After approval of the design, bids for the traffic signal will be solicited from contractors. Acceptance of a
bid will result in a Notice to Proceed being given to a contractor to
install the signal.
FISCAL IMPACT
Design of the traffic signal will cost approximately $3,000 with installa-
tion cost being approximately $67,000. At this time, no funds are in the
1986-87 Capital Improvement Program for this signal. Funds will have to be
appropriated from Account Number 300-941 which is the unappropriated
reserve of the General Capital Construction fund account.
