TITLE: STATUS OF CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER IMPROVEMENTS CITY 1 DEPT~M~ I IClTY c RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive and file staff report with direction to staff and prc architect concerning City Council Chamber improvements. z 0 F 0 a .. s z 3 0 ITEM EXPLANATION: At the City Council meeting of January 27, 1987, Councilman Mamaux requested staff explore the possibility of relocatin speaker's podium from its existing position to the east si the room. Staff requests Council direction on this item the improvements to the City Council Chambers are schedul begin Monday, February 16, 1987. In terms of construction impact, relocating the podium c accomplished by the project contractor while installing Council Chamber improvements. Power can be supplied fo podium's microphone and lights easily and inexpensively, Chambers are scheduled to be completely recarpeted; cleani patching of existing carpet would not be required. The project architect, Rob Wellington Quigley and Associate concerned, however, that relocating the podium to the east of the room would cause additional congestion in this area. architect has indicated that potential conflicts with overhead projection screen, ceiling mounted video c equipment, staff use of the microphone near the proje screen, the audience's "request to speak" forms which are h to the City Clerk, safe and efficient access to the eastern of the room, and the general flow pattern would be fu restricted by including the speaker's podium in this Additionally, relocating the podium to the eastern side o room may require the removal of two (2) or three (3) aud seats in this area. FISCAL IMPACT: Relocating the podium with power supply and partial audience removal may require execution of a contract change order wit contractor. The amount of the change, unknown at this tim subject to negotiation with the contractor but is believed minor in cost. EXHIBITS: 1.
