PER TITLE: AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND SALARY PLAN FOR SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. ?lo6 amending the classification plan and salary plan for Senior Citizen Coordinator. ITEM EXPLANATION: The City Manager's Office in concurrence with the Parks and Recreation Department is recommending a revision of the classification and salary plan for Senior Citizen Coordinator. The current duties of the Senior Citizen Coordinator are as follows: -Prepare and administer senior citizen program budget, -Supervise and participate in a variety of senior citizen program activities. -Make recommendations to the Director of Parks and Recreation regarding the organization, scheduling and staffing of various senior citizen program activities. with outside agencies. -Coordinate program activities with other City departments and divisions and -Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. -Maintain activity and progress reports. -Prepare periodic reports and news releases. -Requisition supplies. -Provide staff assistance and support to the Carlsbad Senior Citizens -Attend meetings and provide staff support to the Coamission/Board including -Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information. -Assist in the development and submittal of applications and grants to Association. the preparation and presentation of technical staff reports. governmental agencies and private foundations. On January 13, 1987, the City Council directed staff to assume responsibility for the Nutrition Program, Mobile Meals, and transportation for the Senior Citizens of our community. These activities were previously being supervised by the Carlsbad Senior Citizen Association. Now that the City will be coordinating these activities, it is necessary to add these specific job duties to the coordinator's classification as follows: 1. Administer the mobile meals and nutrition program, These two programs are funded through the Area Agency on Aging. The City will coordinate the contract as well as supervise the staff that are necessary for implementation of the programs, 2. Coordinate the transportation of the Seniors to various programs and activi- ties. The City will be responsible for supervising the van drivers and the schedule for transporting Seniors to the various programs, Some examples include transportation to the Nutrition Program, medical appointments, excursions, etc. - PAGE 2 of AB# 9 036 FISCAL IMPACT: The new salary range will increase from $1,149 - $1,467 to $1,266 - $1,616 biweekly. This will equal $32,916 - $42,016 on an annual basis, increase in the range is being recommended to compensate the Senior Citizen Coordinator €or the additional duties. This a 1 1 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 - RESOLUTION NO. 9106 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN OF THE CITY TO REVISE THE CLASSIFICATION OF SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs, that the classification and salary range of Senior Citizen Coordinator should be amended. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to revise the classification of Senior Citizen Coordinator to include the duties of 1) Administer the Mobile Meals and Nutrition program, and 2) Coordinate the transportation of the Seniors to various programs and activities, 3. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to amend the salary range of the Senior Citizen Coordinator from $1,149 - $1,467 biweekly to $1,266 - $1,616 biweekly as described in Attachment B, attached hereto and made a part thereof. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of Principles and practices of community organization and administration. Concepts of intergroup relations. Current literautre and development in gerontology. - .
