CITY ATr4(2£* CITY MGR~c§§uX RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Revised Council Policy 20, Street Names and Addresses. ITEM EXPLANATION: Policy 20 was last revised in 1976, and since then several procedural changes have been required to ensure implementation of a uniform system for naming and addressing, or changing existing street names for public and private streets. Required changes are: 1. Approved street names will contain no more than sixteen (16) letters and spaces. 2. Short streets, cul-de-sacs, and winding streets shall have short names to facilitate placing the names on maps and plans. 3. The main name of a street shall only be used once to accomodate Carlsbad's Post Office computer processing system. U. Previously, proponents of tentative maps were required to choose street names from a street name list on file in the Planning Department. To expedite development processing and minimize arbitrary non-functional control, this procedure has been deleted. The developers are now able to submit names of their choices that meet requirements of the Geographical Area Classification Map and the Authorized Street Designation List. O The Fire and Planning Departments have reviewed and approved this ^ revision.
