ITEM EXPLANATION:
TITLE:
EXTENSION OF EMPLOYMENT LISTS
Last summer, the Personnel Department established employment
lists for Firefighter and Paramedic/Firefighter. The recruit-
ment for these positions took a great deal of time and expense
to conduct. Nearly 300 applicants stood in line, some for
three days, to apply for these openings. The employment lists
for these positions still have a number of qualified applicants.
Three new positions for Firefighter/Paramedic were approved in
the budget for FY 87-88. In addition, Fire anticipates several
retirements throughout the year. The extension of these lists
will assist the Personnel Department in providing potential employees for our Fire Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact, however, the extention of the lists
will reduce recruitment costs.

RESOLUTION NO. 9148
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, EXTENDING THE LIST FOR FIREFIGHTER TO JULY 30, 1988, AND THE PARAMEDIC/FIREFIGHTER LIST TO DECEMBER 31,
1987.
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council
concurs, that the lists for Firefighter and Paramedic/Firefighter
should be extended.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitation is true and correct.
2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City
Manager to extend the list for Firefighter from August 1, 1987,
to July 30, 1988, and for Paramedic/Firefighter from July 23, 1987,
to December 31, 1987.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
Carlsbad City Council held on the 14th day of July , 1987,
by the followingvote to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Pettine, Mamaux and Larson
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
