RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No. do2/7 to establish a 45 m.p.h.
prima facie speed limit on Alga Road from El Fuerte Street
to Melrose Drive.
ITEM EXPLANATION
At the July 6, 1987 Traffic Safety Commission meeting,
staff presented the results of a traffic and engineering
survey conducted to establish the prima facie speed limit.
Based upon the results of the survey, the Traffic Safety
Commission unanimously recommended that a 45 mile per hour
prima facie speed limit be established on Alga Road from
El Fuerte Street to Melrose Drive.
Alga Road between El Camino Re~l and El Fuerte Street is
currently designated as a 45 m.p.h. speed zone. The
Traffic Safety Coordinating Committee recommencled the 45
m.p.h. prima facie speed limit to the Traffic Safety
commission.
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of two (2) speed limit signs mounted on 10' posts
is $222.00.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 10,
CHAPTER 10.44 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE
BY THf REVISION OF SECTION 10.44.090 TO EXTEND
THE SPEED ZONE ON ALGA ROAD FROM EL FUERTE
STREET TO MELROSE DRIVE
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,
hereby ordains as follows:
SECTION 1: That Title 10, Chapter 10.44 of the
Carlsbad Municipal Code is amended by the amendment of Section
10.44.090 to read as follows:
11 10.44.090 Alga Road. Upon Alga Road from El
Camino Real to its intersection with Melrose Drive
the prima facie speed limit shall be forty-five
miles per hour."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective
thirty ( 3 O) days after its adoption and the City Clerk of the
City of Carlsbad shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance
and cause it to be published at least once in the Carlsbad
Journal within fifteen days after its adoption.
INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of said
