AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN BY ADDING THE CLASSIFICATION OF TITLE:
EVIDENCE AND PROPERTY TECHNICIAN
DEPT.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 9'2 /? amending the classification and salary plan to add the classification of Evidence and Property Technician.
ITEM EXPLANATION
The Personnel Department in concurrence with the Police Department recommends the job classification for Evidence and Property Technician be adopted.
This classification is the first step in the Pol ice Department's civil ianization of staff. The objective being to use non-sworn personnel for administrative and support functions whenever possible for savings in personnel costs.
Currently, the evidence and property functions are performed by a Police Sergeant who is scheduled to retire during January, 1988. At that time, the Sergeant's position will move the patrol division and a non-sworn technician will be hired.
FISCAL IMPACT
Annual cost of employing Evidence and Property Technician will be approximately $23,060. The Police Department will not require any additional funding during 1987- 88 as a result of this action. If filled late this year, the position will be staffed through a temporary agency or part time services using non-sworn personnel paid from salary savings related to the retirement of the officer currently providing these services.
