REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL
STAGECOACH PARK - PLAYGROUND SCULPTURE
An outdoor playground sculpture will be commissioned for
Stagecoach Park. Proposals should take into account the
following:
1. Type of artwork - it may be sculptural, environmental or
any other creative proposal applicable to the site.
2. Siting - located in Stagecoach Park, 3420 Mision Estancia.
The artist may select the site most suitable to his
proposal.
3. All artwork must be durable, safe, touchable and have low maintenance requirements.
Amount Available
$75,000
including all design, artists fees, working drawings, permits, lighting, fabrication, transportation and installation costs.
Required Materials
1. Preliminary sketch of work, drawn to scale.
2. A narrative description of the piece which includes its
dimensions, materials, siting and maintenance requirements.
3. Evidence of previous work including a resume and slides
and/or photographs (no less than 12 and no more than 20).
4. A budget that details expenditures that total no more than

Materials will be returned upon request if a self addressed,
stamped envelope is provided.
Deadline for Proposals
No late proposals will be accepted.
Selection Committee
The Selection Committee will consist of an Arts Commissioner,
Dona Meilach; Parks & Recreation Commissioner, Marjorie Morrison
community representative, Robert Hoehn; and two artists to be selected.
Review Criteria
The Selection Committee will1 review all proposals and make its decision using the following criteria:
1. Quality of artwork
2. Consideration of and appropriateness to the site
3. Technical and budgetary feasibility.
4. Maintenance considerations.

RESOLUTION NO. 9260
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR A PLAYGROUND SCULPTURE AT STAGECOACH PARK.
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.18 of the Carlsbad Municipal C
governs the Carlsbad Arts Commission and establishes the Ci
Arts Fund for public art; and
WHEREAS, expenditures from the Civic Arts Fund re
City Council approval; and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission recommends an artist
commissioned to design playground sculpture for Stagecoach
and
WHEREAS, the Arts Commission advises a maximum cc
$87,500 should be appropriated to fund the artist's commiss
related administrative costs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Cour
the City of Carlsbad, California, authorizes expenditures f
Civic Arts Fund in the following amount:
1. An amount of $87,500 for the commissioning of
artist and related expenses for a playground sculpture for
Stagecoach Park, 3420 Mision Estancia, Carlsbad, Californi;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the (
Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, that the amour
$87,500 is hereby appropriated from the unreserved fund ba:
