RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. $"?-:J.3 , appropriating funds from the Police Asset
Forfeiture Fund for the acquisition of equipment and support of police
activities.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City of Carlsbad receives forfeited funds and ass~ts as a result of the
Police Department's narcotics enfor~ement efforts. These funds are
restricted by statute for use by the Police Department only and cannot be
used ~o supplant existing or future Police budgets.
The City currently has a balance of $19,040.55 in the account i•;hich was set
up to receive these funds. At this time, none of these funds are
appropriated.
The recommended action will appropriate the balance of this fund making it
available to the Police Department for expenditure. Once appropriated,
these funds will be controlled by the same rules which apply to other /city
funds, including bidding procedures and the award of a contract. In
addition, City Manager approval will be required prior to any expenditure of
funds. Proposals for these funds include the following types of
expenditures:
Acquisition 0f office machinery, including typewriters
and Xerox machines.
Support co~ts of enforcement activities and services.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Police Asset Forfeiture Fund, Account 121, has a balanc~ of $19,040.55,
The appropriation of these funds has no effect on the City General Fund or
other funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIATING FUNDS
FROM THE POLICE ASSET FORFEITURE FUND FOR THE
SUPPORT OF POLICE ACTIVITIES.
WHEREAS, from time to time, the City of Carlsbad receives funds and
assets resulting from the Police Department's drug enforcement activities;
and
wlIEREAS, said funds must be restricted to use in supporting Police
activities including the acquisition of equipment, supplies or services;
and
WHEREAS, the appropriation of saict fw1ds is necessary before any
expenditure of funds can take place; and
WHEREAS, the Police Forfeiture Asset Fund has an available fund balance
of $19,040.55;
WHEREAS, City Manager approval shall be required on any expenditure of
funds from this source, in addition to the normal controls established by
the City's purchasing policies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, that the amount of S19,040.55 be hereby appropriated
from the available fund balance of the Police Asset Forfeiture Fund for
support of Police activities.
