Adopt Resolution No./, appropriating $30,000 from the Audiovisual Insurance
Fund for the acquisition of videotapes and video supplies.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Library audiovisual insurance fees collected on videotapes and films have created a
current balance in the Audiovisual Insurance Fund of $82,616. The library's
original fiscal 1987-88 appropriation for videotapes was $40,000. These funds have
been used for current purchases and for purchases to begin developing a videotape
collection for the new South Carlsbad Library. Several large videotape collections
have been purchased for the new library to take advantage of current, significant
price reductions. As a result of these purchases, the Audiovisual Insurance
Account needs to be augmented.
In order to continue to purchase videotapes for the main and branch libraries for
the remainder of the year, an additional appropriation into the Audiovisual
Insurance Account will be needed. The recommended appropriation, $30,000, will be
adequate to cover all film and videotape expenditures for the remainder of the
current fiscal year.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Audiovisual Insurance Fund is fee based and is used exclusively to support the
development of the videotape collection. No General Fund money is used for the
purchase of videotapes.

RESOLUTION NO. 88-31
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIATING FUNDS FROM THE
LIBRARY AUDIOVISUAL INSURANCE FUND FOR THE
ACQUISITION OF VIDEOTAPES AND SUPPLIES.
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad City Library receives audiovisual insurance fees
for the loan of videotapes and films; and
WHEREAS, said funds are restricted for the purchase of new and
replacement copies of videotapes and films; and
WHEREAS, the -appropriation of additional funds in the amoim t of $30,000
is necessary to continue videotape acquisitions for the remainder of this
fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, the Audiovisual Insurance Fund now has an available balance of
$78,115.82;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad, California, that the amount of $30,000 be hereby appropriated from
the available fund balance of the Audiovisual Insurance Fund for the
acquisition of videotapes and supplies.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Carlsbad held the 9th day of February , 1988, by the
following vote, to wit:
