RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Introduce Ordinance No. to establish a prima facie 40 mile per
hour speed limit on Cadencia Street, from La Costa Avenue northerly to a
point 500-feet west of Perdiz Street.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
A request to establish a prima facie speed limit on the referenced portion
of Cadencia Street was discussed at the January 4, 1988 meeting of the
Traffic Safety Commission. At that meeting, staff presented the results
of a traffic and engineering survey as required by the California Vehicle
Code to establish a prima facie speed limit. Based upon the results of
the survey, the Traffic Safety Commission voted 4-0 to recommend to the
City Council that a 40 mile per hour prima facie speed limit be
established on Cadencia Street from La Costa Avenue northerly to a point
500-feet west of Perdiz Street. At this location a residence district
begins that has a 25 M.P.H prima facie speed limit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Installing two (2) speed limit signs and 10' post units will cost $250.00.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 10, CHAPTER
10.44 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE
REVISION OF SECTION 10.44.200 TO ESTABLISH THE
SPEED LIMIT ON A PORTION OF CADENCIA STREET FROM
LA COSTA AVENUE NORTHERLY TO A POINT 500-FEET
WEST OF PERDIZ STREET.
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, hereby ordains as
11fol1ows:
SECTION 1: That Title 10, Chapter 10.44 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code
is amended by the revision of Section 10.44.200 to read as follows:
"10.44.200 Cadencia Street: (a) Upon Cadencia Street from a point
500-feet west of Perdiz Street to its intersection with Rancho Santa
Fe Road, the prima facie speed limit shall be twenty-five miles per,
hour.
(b) Upon Cadencia Street from La Costa Avenue northerly to a point
500-feet west of Perdiz Street, the prima facie speed limit shall be
forty miles per hour."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days
after its adoption and the City Clerk of the City of Carlsbad shall certify to
the adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published at least once in
the Carlsbad Journal within fifteen days after its adoption.
INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of said City Council held
Dn the 16th day of February 1988, and thereafter
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad City
:ouncil held on the 23rd day of February , 1988 by the following vote, to
qit:
