TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAINTENANCE
AGREEMENT
Adopt Resolution No. 8f-7/ approving an agreement with
Alexander Traffic Signals/Street Lighting of San Diego to
provide traffic signal maintenance and repairs.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The City has provided for routine maintenance and emergency
repair of traffic signals through a contract with Southwest
Traffic Signal Service, Inc. This contract has expired.
On December 16, 1987, a "Notice to Bidders" was advertised and
sealed bids were received from three (3) bidders on a Traffic
Signal Maintenance Agreement. Since this is a service contract,
bids were evaluated by using the maintenance and repair history
to forecast each bidders total estimated annual price/cost (see
Exhibit 2). Using this evaluation method, the estimated annual
cost for each bidder was determined to be:
Alexander Traffic Signals/St. Lighting $154,603 Signal Maintenance, Inc. 164,797
Southwest Traffic Signal Serv., Inc. 167,074
Alexander Traffic Signals/St. Lighting is the lowest responsive bidder with a calculated annual cost of $154,603. The rates
proposed by this bidder are lower than current rates.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The FY1987-88 budget allocated $115,000 for miscellaneous
consultants in account 001-54-10-2479, which includes traffic
signal maintenance. There is currently $90,039 in the account.
It is estimated that $51,600 will be required this fiscal year
to accomplish the work.
