CITY CITY MGR.%- RECOMMENDED ACTION: City Council adopt Resolution No. tJT-F3 , revising the salary ranges for Librarian I1 and 111. ITEM EXPLANATION The Library Director, concerned with salary compression among classes of professional Librarians, requested a salary survey. Analysis of salaries for Librarian I, I1 and I11 with comparable positions in other agencies revealed that severe salary compression existed between Librarian I1 and Librarian 111. Staff recommends adjusting the salary range for Librarian I1 from range 54 to 57 and adjusting Librarian I11 from range 59 to 63. This action will increase the separation between Librarian I1 and Librarian I11 from the current 4.5% to 15%. This adjustment will also bring the salary for Librarian I11 up to the County average. This action will impact one Librarian I1 and six Librarian 111's. The salary range for Librarian I will remain the same. FISCAL IMPACT The cost of salary adjustments and related benefits is $11,105 for the remainder of the 1987-88 fiscal year and will be supported by a transfer from the contingency fund. The contingency fund balance will be $i.072,918. WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends and the City Council concurs, that the salary ranges for Librarian I1 and Librarian I11 be adjusted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. 2. That the City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to adjust the salary range for Librarian I1 from range 54, $950.64 - $1,136.47 to Range 57, $969.63 - $1,157.07 and adjust Librarian I11 from range 59, $993.69- $1,188.83, to range 63, $1,122.06 - $1,344.26, as described in Attachment A, attached hereto and made a part thereof. That the above recitations are true and correct.
