the amount of $2,900.00.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
This project is a library outreach program which will directly involve hearing
impaired children, grades K-8, attending the Communications Center at Magnolia
Elementary School. Artist, Claudia Leonesio-Mons, will conduct workshops with the
students combining sign language, mime and movement to dramatize poetry and literature.
The artist and participants will go to the library to look for and select performance
pieces. Through this process, the participants will also learn how to use the library.
Original poems would also be solicited through the library's ongoing adult poetry
reading series. Initial workshops and rehearsals will begin in late March to prepare
for library public performances in May celebrating Deaf Awareness Month. Month long
(June/July) summer workshops will culminate in performances for the library's Summer
Reading Club, Morning Story Hours, Evening Creative Storytelling Group and Public
Program Series.
Grant will support cost of the project.
