introduce Ordinance No. S 1 G to establish a prima facie 40 mile per hour
speed limit on Avenida Encinas, from Palomar Airport Road to Cannon Road.
IMH EXPL UTICN:
Mie City of Carlsbad Police Department requested that a prima facie speed
limit be established on the referenced portion of Avenida Encinas. At the
April 4, 1988 Traffic Safety Cmuission meeting, staff presented the results
of a traffic and engineering survey as required by the California Vehicle
Code. Based upon the results of the survey, the Ccmnission unanimously
reo mnended that a 40 mile per hour prima facie speed limit be established
on Avenida Encinas from Palcrar Airport Road to Cannon Road.
Installing two (2) speed limit signs and 10'* post units will cost $250.00.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 10, CHAPTER
10.44 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE
ADDITION OF SECTION 10.44.280 TO ESTABLISH THE
SPEED LIMIT ON AVENDIA ENCINAS FROM PALOMAR
AIRPORT ROAD TO CANNON ROAD.
The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, hereby ordains as
follows:
Section 1: That Title 10, Chapter 10.44 of the Carlsbad Municipal Code
is amended by the addition of Section 10.44.280 to read as follows:
'110.44.280 Avenida Encinas: Upon Avenida Encinas from Palomar
Airport Road to its intersection with Cannon Road the prima facie
speed limit shall be forty miles per hour."
EFFECTIVE DATE: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days
after it adoption and the City Clerk, City of Carlsbad shall certify to the
adoption of this ordinance and cause it to be published at least once in the
Carlsbad Journal within fifteen (15) days after its adoption.
INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ at a regular meeting of said City Council held
on the 17th day of May 1988, and thereafter,
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Carlsbad
City Council held on the 24th day of May 1988 by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Lewis, Kulchin, Pettine, Mamaux and Larson
NOES: None
