HD.-DL CITY An. MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt 1988 objectives as indicated on the work plan and review first quarter accomplishments. ITEM EXPLANATION: In December of 1987, the City Council established its goals for 1988. A "goal" being the ultimate purpose of an effort stated in a way that is general in nature and unmeasurable. The Council goals are divided into the following five categories which represent the general service areas of City departments: I. Administration 11. Community Development I I I. Cul tural and Recreational IV. Safety V. Utilities and Maintenance Each department formulated objectives in response to the City Council goals. An "objective" being a measurable, well -defined project or program with a speci f i c dead1 i ne. It is important to remember that the adopted goals and objectives guide staff in the use of their time, energy and resources, and therefore should be established with care and consideration. Each quarter, staff will update the City Council on the progress of the adopted objectives. The attached document details 1988 Council goals, departmental objectives and the progress of the first quarter of 1988. In December of 1988, the City Council will be asked to establish goals for 1989, and the process will repeat itself.
