RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Review and discuss live broadcast, of City Council meetings.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Carlsbad Cablevision will be able to broadcast City Council meetings
live beginning mid -August 1988. I1 the Council wishes to broadcast
Council meetings live, staff will in3truct Cablevision to begin
live cablecasting of Council meetings when the equipment is
installed.

Television voted at their meeting of April 7, 1988, to purchase the equipment
necessary to provide reverse feed capability for the local community channel.

The Foundation will provide the funds for the equipment, in the amount of
$8,035. Daniels Cablevision will provide the engineering services to wire and
activate the equipment at no charge. Ownership of the equipment will remain
with the Foundation, with Daniels Cablevision serving as caretaker. The

believes that "live" cablecasts will attract even more viewers and increase
citizen involvement. Community access channels in many communities, including

With or without "live" Carlsbad City Council meetings; the Foundation board
believes that reverse feed equipment will be a significant addition to local
access television in Carlsbad and will advance the Foundation's goal of
promoting community access to and community progran::.ing of the local public
service channel.
If the City Council wants to proceed with live cablecasting of Council
meetings, we will direct Carlsbad Cablevision to Degin the live broadcasts
when all the appropriate equipment is installed.
