ITEM EXPLANATION Section 36516 of the California Government Code provides that a general law city with a population over 50,000 up to 75,000 may compensate each member of the city council in the amount of $500 per month. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 1293 adopted in January 1987 the new salary prescribed by law for a city our size went into effect after the March 1987 special election. State law also provides for a 5 o per year increase for calendar year 1987 and 1988. If the Council wishes to make that adjustment as allowed by state law your action is to introduce Ordinance No. NS-28' The increase would not be effective until the new Council is seated after the November 1988 general municipal election. NS-28 2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 3, CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 2, CHAPTER 2.04 OF THE CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE 4 AMENDMENT OF SECTION 2.04.010 TO INCREASE THE COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE 5 CITY COUNCIL. 6 The City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, does 7 ordain as follows: 8 SECTION I: That Title 2, Chapter 2.04 of the Carlsbad 9 unicipal Code is amended by the amendment of Section 2.04.010 to 10 read as follows: 11 112.04.010 Compensation.
